Hirai Chokusui lived in Õsaka. He was a calligrapher, but at the age of 30 he went to study with Fukada Chokujô (1861-1947). Chokusui was a good painter of landscape and kachôga and especially good at peacock paintings. He died halfway the Taishô period.
