The female artist Watarai Irako was born in the rural Atsumi District, Aichi Prefecture. She later moved to Nagoya. Irako was a wholehearted mountain painter who, before she started to paint, made sketches and drawings until she was satisfied. She was selected for the Seiryûsha exhibition in 1942.
