He went to Kyoto to become a student of Okamoto Toyohiko (1773-1845). At the beginning of the Tempo period early 1830s, he returned to his hometown, Ohara Village, Kojima County, Bizen (Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture), where he opened a painting school.
