Kitakami Seigyu, his real name was Riichirô, was born in Hakodate in Hokkaido. When he was 23 years old, he went to Kyoto to study paintings in Takeuchi Seiho’s studio. In 1916, he won a prize at the 10th Bunten exhibition. After 1920, he won prizes at the Teiten and Bunten exhibitions. He later showed his work at his own private exhibitions. He was good at drawing realistic paintings of landscape and kachôga, flower and bird paintings.
